We were proud to host the Eighth International Geostatistics Congress in Chile, bringing it to South America for the first time in its 33 year history, and welcome over 300 delegates to Santiago. The presence of such a large number of delegates from many countries and backgrounds ensured rich discussions and exchange of experiences. Technical talks and posters presented during these five days covered a broad spectrum of fields and provided an instantaneous picture of the current state of the art in this discipline.

Producing such a complex event has been a rather challenging task which has required a lot of disciplined effort from all of us. This Congress would not have been possible without all those people who have put in long hours of hard work, dedication, energy and talent.
